Programme Synopsis

THEATRE 101:ACTING is an introductory theatre workshop, specially focusing on stage acting. Using the inputs from various local and overseas theatre directors during actual performance rehearsals and workshops, this programme encapsulates the basic essentials that any performer needs to know to present himself or herself confidently, in front of an audience. Students will also be introduced to and are required to apply the NAVARASAS or 9 core emotions, in their final mini performance. This high-charged workshop breaks one from their comfort zone and pushes them to realize that they indeed have what it takes to perform. The trainer who was commissioned to stage an official opening performance for CultureFest 2015 by the National Heritage Board, has successfully staged several plays for the public, using actors of all levels of experience, and using methods that maximise one’s potential, hence creating magic on stage, even with a newbie.

Learning Objectives

  • Students will understand what acting is and the tools an actor uses.
  • Students will know the different types of space and demonstrate how space
  • Students will know what the various emotions actors deal with are, when they take on roles and exercise those emotions.
